Pavol HviezdoslavThe engraving on banknote is made after this photo of Pavol Hviezdoslav.

Pavol Hviezdoslav (February 2, 1849 - November 8, 1921) was a Slovak poet, dramatist, translator and for a short time member of the Czechoslovak parliament. First, he wrote in traditional style, but later became influenced by parnassism and modernism.

Hviezdoslav studied in grammar schools in Miskolc and Kežmarok (Késmárk). After his graduation in 1870, he continued his studies in the Law Academy of Prešov (Eperjes) where in 1871 he participated in the preparation of the Almanach Napred ("Forward" Miscellany/Almanac) which marks the beginning of a new literary generation in Slovak literature. Due to his contribution to this Almanac with several radical poems, however, he was ignored in the literature life of the country in the rest of the 1870s and couldn't published his works. During this period he pursued his law carrier in Dolný Kubín but he also carried on with his literature work in his past time. He practiced as a lawyer between 1875 and 1899 in Námestovo (Námesztó) and then in Dolný Kubín again. In 1918 he became a member of the newly created Revolutionary National Assembly (provisional governing body, later parliament) in Prague and from 1919-1920 served as its representative. In 1919 he was chosen as the leader of the re-established Matica slovenská (see below). In 1954, the Literary Museum of P. O. Hviezdoslav was established in Dolný Kubín. A festival of amateur reciters named Hviezdoslav's Kubín has been held there since.

Centered, on guilloched by beams background, is coat of arms of Czechoslovakia.

In November 17, 1960 Act No.163 introduced a new national emblem (designed by M.Hegar), which was supposed to represent the so called "completion of the building of socialism" in Czechoslovakia. In fact, the emblem was at variance with the rules of heraldry, though it did at least preserve the lion as a symbol of the land of Bohemia.

The national emblem of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic is represented by a red shield in the shape of a Hussite pavis with a five-pointed star at the top and a white two-tailed lion rampant with a red escutcheon on its chest showing a blue silhouette of Mount Kriváò and a bonfire in gold color.

Bottom left is the Braille dot for visually impaired.

Denominations in numerals are on the left side vertically, top left and bottom right. In words centered.

In lower left corner is, presumably, the Song thrush.

song thrush

The song thrush (Turdus philomelos) is a thrush that breeds across much of Eurasia. It has brown upperparts and black-spotted cream or buff underparts and has three recognised subspecies. Its distinctive song, which has repeated musical phrases, has frequently been referred to in poetry.

The song thrush breeds in forests, gardens and parks, and is partially migratory with many birds wintering in southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

On the right side is Fragaria.

Fragaria

Fragaria is a genus of flowering plants in the rose family, Rosaceae, commonly known as strawberries for their edible fruits. There are more than 20 described species and many hybrids and cultivars.

The view at Orava mountains.

Orava is the traditional name of a region situated in northern Slovakia (as Orava) and partially also in southern Poland (as Orawa). It encompasses the territory of the former (comitatus) Árva County or Arwa (German).

Mountain Veľký Choč (1611 m.) - the highest point in the mountain range Chočské vrchy in northern Slovakia.

The Choč Mountains (in Slovak, Chočské vrchy) are a range of mountains in north-central Slovakia, a portion of the Fatra-Tatra Area of the Inner Western Carpathians. The range is 24 kilometers long and on average only 4 kilometers wide. Highest peak is Veľký Choč at 1 611 meters above sea level.

On the banknote, in theory, can be one of the mountains in the Orava. For example, Kasprov vrch (1 987 m. n. m.), Bystra (Szczyt) (2248 m.) or Ostrý Roháč (2084 m.).

On the left side are the apples on the tree branches.

Denominations in numerals are on the right side vertically, top left and lower right (rosette on background).
