Avers:
Hassanal Bolkiah (Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien; born 15 July 1946) is the 29th and current Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei. He is also the first and incumbent Prime Minister of Brunei. The eldest son of Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien III and Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit, he succeeded to the throne as the Sultan of Brunei, following the abdication of his father on 4 October 1967.
The Sultan has been among the wealthiest individuals in the world, with differing estimates of his personal wealth as it is not always evident what can be calculated as personal and what rather as public wealth belonging to the state i.e. crown, as Brunei is a monarchy. Forbes for example estimated the Sultan's total peak net worth at US$20 billion in 2008.
In center is a flower Cosmos Caudatus.
Cosmos caudatus is an annual plant in Cosmos genus, bearing purple, pink, or white ray florets, and capable of being found worldwide in tropical areas.
The plant is edible and its common names include ulam raja, literally meaning "the King's salad". It was brought by the Spaniards from Latin America, via the Philippines, to the rest of Southeast Asia.
Ulam, a Malay word used to describe a preparation that combines food, medicine and beauty is the widely popular Malay herbal salad. As a Malaysian delight, it is served throughout the country from major hotels for tourists to buffet lunches or dinners for the locals.
A little to the right side of Sultan is a small polymer window, shaped in Lotus flower style. Inside it is Brunei's coat of arms.
Top left are the Braille dots for visually impaired.
Denominations in numerals are in top right and lower left corners. Centered in words.
Revers:
Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan - aerial view.
Built in 1992 to celebrate the 25th year of the current sultan's reign, Brunei's largest mosque and its four terrazzo-tiled minarets dominate the 'suburbs' of BSB. It's certainly a...noticeable building; because the sultan is his dynasty's 29th ruler, the complex is adorned with 29 golden domes. At night the mosque is lit up like a gold flame.
The interior is best described as jaw-droppingly over-the-top. The sheer volume in itself is amazing, not to mention the myriad woven rugs scattered across the men's prayer hall.
The mosque is about 3 km. northwest of the city center towards Gadong.
The Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque is also as the Kiarong Mosque because of its location.
The Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Silver Jubilee Park and Recreation Area built in 2002 in tribute to His Majesty the Sultan's 56th Birthday, this beautiful six-hectare-large Silver Jubilee Park and Recreation Area in Kampong. Land marked by lush landscaping and an imposing structure featuring columns and fountains leading out to a tranquil pier, this park is a contribution of the citizens of the Brunei-Muara District, various Government Departments and the private sector in commemoration of the Sultan's 25 years of splendid rule.
Denomination in numeral and in words is lower left.
