Trinity suburb Trinity suburbView of the Trinity suburb (Траецкае прадмесце) in Minsk.

Trinity Suburb is a beautiful and unique corner of the old Minsk, which is now one of the most favorite places of Minsk dwellers and guests. The occupation of the territory according to the archaeological data has began in the X century. At the beginning of the XVI century on a hill overlooking Svisloch Trinity church and monastery arose. The upland and the city suburb, which began to form, got the name from them. Most homes in the Trinity suburb were made of wood, and for a long time, it was considered a suburb of Minsk, and entered the line of the town only in the XIX century.

In the XVI - XVII centuries this was one of the two pottery centers in Minsk for the production of tiles. Here were found fragments of tiles, fragments die tools - molds for extrusion drawing. People of middle class - artisans, merchants, peasants and soldiers lived in the suburbs. In the Trinity suburb Maxim Bogdanovich was born, and Yanka Kupala’s family lived here.

A fire of 1809 destroyed all the wooden buildings of Trinity suburb, after which the plan was oppressed to the canons of classicism: the streets intersected at right angles, the stone houses were built close to each other, creating a single line. Also local traditions were taken into account, which are expressed in a characteristic decoration of the facades and caused by climatic conditions high roofs with attics. Restoration of the Trinity suburb, in accordance with the old plans, drawings and photographs was held in 1980. Restoration of architectural and urban complex was carried out on the designs of L. Levin, Y. Gradov, S. Baglasov.

Houses and patios evoke the atmosphere of the first half of the XIX century, however, many of the buildings have basements and first floors, relating to an earlier time. The trade and craft rooms were once on the ground floors of these buildings.

Кафедральный православный собор Святого Духа, Минск Кафедральный православный собор Святого Духа, МинскCentered, above the Trinity suburb, are 2 broach spires of the Holy Spirit (Belarusian: Кафедральны сабор Сашэсця Святога Духа).

One of the most visible churches in Minsk, with its central location overlooking the Svisloch river in the historic Upper Town, the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit is the most important Russian Orthodox church in the city. Its origins date back to the 17th century when the building served as a Catholic Bernardine monastery. After several devastating fires and a conversion to Orthodoxy, the church was expanded and renovated, though the monastery was closed in 1922. The church's holiest icon is the image of the Mother of God, which is said to have been found by Minsk residents in 1500.
